Fitbit, a company connected with health technology, is well-known for its fitness trackers and smartwatches. Many people rely on these gadgets to track their daily activities, including steps, calories, distance, gym sessions, runs, and more.
The brand’s reputation is based on its affordability and lengthy history of high-quality items. According to 9to5Google, Fitbit is releasing a substantial software upgrade for some of its current devices.
Fitbit Releases New Software Update for Its Latest Smartwatches – Here’s What’s New
This version seeks to fix current issues and provide new functionality. This is a comfort given Fitbit’s previous difficult era.
Google purchased the firm in 2021 and uses the Fitbit app and software to power its Pixel Watch wristwatch line. The Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, and Pixel Watch 3 run Google’s WearOS, but they also work with the Fitbit app for all health and fitness monitoring requirements.
However, Fitbit said last year that it will not create another Fitbit smartwatch. According to the Express, the Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4, which will be released in 2022, are likely to be the final Fitbit-branded smartwatches created.
Notably, unlike their predecessors, these watches do not feature WiFi, music storage, or third-party apps. This has sparked conjecture that Google may have deliberately sabotaging Fitbit wearables in order to urge customers to buy a Pixel Watch instead, which includes all of these capabilities.
Fitbit is releasing a new software update for its Sense 2, Versa 4, Charge 6, and Inspire 3 devices, which includes useful status indications. When active, these symbols appear quickly at the top of the screen, delivering rapid updates on features such as do not disturb or sleep mode, low battery, and phone connection status.
Fitbit says that these indicators disappear after three seconds, but if users find them unpleasant, they can be turned off in the settings. While all status indicators can be accessed with a simple right swipe from the home screen, the update provides an instant glance without the need to slide.
According to 9to5Google, the Charge 6 and Inspire 3 versions will also receive “new Bluetooth security features” that will remind users to ‘forget’ their tracker in their phone’s Bluetooth settings and re-pair the device. The firmware upgrade should display in the Fitbit app, moving from version 210.26 to 214.22.
However, it is unclear whether this update addresses the previously discovered fault by Express.co.uk, in which certain Fitbit trackers, including the Charge 6 and earlier Charge 5, failed to automatically register distance, depriving users of a basic tracking capability.
